by William Shakespeare February 23-24 & March 2-3, 2007 @ 7:30pm February 25 @ 2pm Due to the storm's interrupting of the rehearsal schedule, Clark Theatre has put back performances of "The Tempest" by one week. The new dates are as follows: February 23-25 and March 2-3. All shows start at 7:30 pm except for a Sunday matinee, February 25 at 2 pm. A true multi-media event, "The Tempest" combines music, magic, and special effects to tell the story of Prospero, a powerful wizard-king. Stranded on a deserted island with his daughter, Miranda, he relies on the help of two supernatural creatures to obtain her rescue and his revenge. Ariel is a noble spirit of air and fire; it is Ariel and her host of fairies who create the storm that opens the play. Caliban is a half-human monster of earth and water, who secretly plots against Prospero with his enemies. "The Tempest" is ultimately a comedy, but monsters, storms, shipwrecks, and enchantments make it a bumpy ride to a happy ending. "The Tempest" is Shakespeare's final masterpiece; scholars believe it is the last play he ever completed. Shakespeare like you've never seen him before. A fantasy of monsters, shipwrecks, and magicians set on a desert isle. The last play he ever wrote, "The Tempest" may also be his most beautiful. Clark Theatre is part of the Park and Recreation Department of the City of Tulsa and has been producing plays for family audiences and youth actors since 1978. It is located at 11440 E. Admiral, ¼ mile east of Garnett. Clark Theatre and Heller Theatre are run by the same staff and are both part of the Park and Recreation Department. |
