"The Crucible"
Oct 29-31, Nov 5 & 6, 2004
Directed by Genie Reiman
Clark Youth Theatre will be presenting the Tony Award
winning play, "The Crucible" from October 29 through
November 6.
The story of the Salem witch trials, when neighbor turned against neighbor in an outburst of paranoia and suspicion, remains one of the most shameful yet compelling episodes in history. Nineteen people were hanged as witches, and hundreds more imprisoned until the panic passed. Arthur Miller wrote the play as a response to McCarthyism, seeing the witch trials as a metaphor for the hysteria that gripped the country during the 50's.
Director Genie Reiman has done an outstanding job in preparing our talented troupe of actors for this dramatic challenge. Besides coaching them to some very effective performances, Genie has also helped them to understand some of the historical events behind the play.Genie Reiman has her Masters in
children's theatre and is an Artist-In-Residence with the State Arts
Council. She also is a recipient of the Jingle Feldman grant.
Genie Reiman's costume design and Devin Meadows' set design faithfully recreate the feel of the colonial period. Frank Gallagher has designed the lights. Kasey Conn, a newcomer to Clark productions and Lindsey Cunningham run the lights and sound from the booth.
Preston Lindley plays John Proctor, a simple farmer who is unwillingly dragged into the crisis. Audra Miller plays his wife Elizabeth who is falsely accused. Dylan Glenn and Clayton Bradshaw represent the religious establishment of 17th century Massachusetts, while Taylor Casillas, Caitrin Sneed, Alyssa Cheatham, Deanna Mancino, and Tabitha Littlefield portray the girls whose accusations began the trials. Chantelle Fitzpatrick, Katherine Alberty, Kaigan Clapp, Rena Borg, Jerib Kaiser, Adi Cerda, M. Reye McAtee, Rebecca Sparks, Olivia Pacheco, Pieter Van Tassell, and Madelyn Childs round out the cast.
Clark Theatre is a youth theater program and is part of the
city of Tulsa Park and Recreation Department.
