The first annual Tulsa Awards for Theatre Excellence (TATE) were given out June 21, with Clark Youth Theatre sharing in both first place prizes!
"Sound of Music," directed by Erin Scarberry, won the Outstanding Youth Production award. The actual, physical award is pretty impressive; it's going to look great being proudly displayed at Clark! And of course it comes with a very nice, $2,500 check attached, which will go to the Clark Recreation Council. Congratulations to Erin and the cast for recognition of your excellent show!
"Up the Down Staircase," which Clark did in partnership with Theatre Tulsa, won the overall Outstanding Production award. This show was co-directed by Julie Tattershall and Frank Gallagher, produced by Anthony Batchelder, with a cast consisting of mostly Clark kids with a few Clark parents thrown in for good measure. Since this show was nominated by Theatre Tulsa (the only way it could have been eligible for the overall award), Theatre Tulsa will get the award and check. That technicality aside, it's nice to have bragging rights to both TATE winners!
Ryan Mannschreck, Tiffany Wright, Brianna Morrison, and Julia Mills were Clark's representatives for the evening (along with the staff), and it was wonderful to see them walk up front to accept the awards.
Congratulations to all our winners--not just the actors, techies, and directors for these two shows, but to everyone who's been a part of Clark this season! You're all winners.
