A chance for teen writers and directors to get into the act!
OK all you writers, directors, actors and techies out there. Get ready for some exciting news. How about writing/directing/teching your own show? Sound interesting? Read on.
The Emergence Project was conceived for Clark Youth Theatre by Julie Tattershall and George Romero as an undertaking to develop the artistic skills and talents of Tulsa area youth. By handing over the reigns of writing, directing, and other production aspects of The Emergence Project, we hope to see local artists flourish in a new way. Dates for the production are June 3rd through 5th at 7.30 PM, and June 6th at 2 pm.
Clark Theatre is currently seeking writers and directors between the ages of 12 and 18 for this production. Playwrights should submit a piece 10-20 minutes in length, which would require minimal sets, props and lighting. Directors are asked to submit an application stating their goals for the production, as well as any skills they think they could bring to the project. Up to six one-act plays and directors will be chosen for this production.
Advising on this project is George Romero, an experienced local director, actor, and arts educator currently serving as the President of the Heller Theatre Council. The deadline for submission is February 28th, 2010. Plays and Applications should be submitted via email to georgeious@gmail.com .
Writers and directors will be notified by March 10th, with an initial production meeting to follow on Saturday, March 13th. Directors are expected to assemble a technical crew, conduct auditions, coordinate with staff on press, and hold rehearsals. Playwrights are asked to be able to attend the talkback session following the Friday evening performance on June 5th. All plays submitted should be suitable for an all ages family audience.
The Emergence Project will hold auditions for actors at Clark Theatre, in the Henthorne Arts Center on Saturday, April 10th at 3 PM. Henthorne is located at 4825 S. Quaker Avenue. For any further information, call 918.746.5065.
