Two strangers make their way in a shared train compartment from Paris to Frankfurt, one is a famous novelist and the other a great admirer of his. Will she muster the nerve to speak to him? Will he acknowledge his accidental traveling companion? Or, despite their close physical proximity, will they remain in their distant interior worlds? Two intertwined personal stories cleverly composed of overlapping interior monologues, this subtle and endearing play is Yasmina Reza’s follow-up to her international (and local!) smash hit Art. The NY Press called The Unexpected Man “a compelling work, a pungent and perceptive inquiry into the strange links between desire, invention and self-invention.” The production is also being presented at the Oklahoma Community Theatre Association Festival on Saturday July 8th at Rupel Jones Theatre at OU, Norman Oklahoma as Heller Theatre Council's entry into the state wide theatre festival. |
