When one of the few black students at Belmont College starts receiving hate mail, the campus erupts, first with shock, then with blame, as students and faculty alike try to define their own politically correct views on race. Sarah Daniels, the dean of students, finds herself at the center of this maelstrom even as she is forced to explore her own feelings. "Spinning into Butter", explores the dangers of both racism and political correctness. Caucasians often talk a good game about diversity, but often fail to have any true understanding of minority experiences.
The Goodman Theatre in Chicago originally commissioned the play. Since it's first production, it has been produced all over the country.
