"Heller Shorts, Off, Off Brookside"

August 12-15, 2010

Heller Theatre at Henthorne Park is now accepting submissions for the first annual “Heller Shorts, Off, Off Brookside” short play festival, to be held August 12-15, 2010. Six to eight original short plays will be selected for production. The theme for the inaugural festival is “Short Subjects. ”

Playwrights in Green Country (ages 18 years and older) are asked to submit plays which require minimal sets, props and lighting and can be performed in 15 minutes or less. Scripts must include shorts in the story – wearing shorts, folding shorts, anything that incorporates shorts into their script.

Submissions must be post marked no later than April 15, 2010. Electronic submission is preferred and should be sent to: HellerShorts@gmail.com Hard copy submissions may be mailed to: Heller Shorts c/o Heller Theatre at Henthorne Park, 4825 S. Quaker, Tulsa, OK 74105-4753. No scripts will be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Playwrights will be notified by May 20, 2010 if their work has been chosen for production. All plays will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The highest rated scripts will be produced.

In conjunction with “Heller Shorts,” a playwrights’ forum will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:00 PM beginning January 14, 2010. Susan Apker will lead a forum for playwrights wishing to hear their works read aloud as they prepare for submission to the festival. No judges of the festival will be allowed to attend forum sessions.

Heller Theatre is part of the Park and Recreation Department of the City of Tulsa. Heller has been producing contemporary plays since 1981. The same three member staff, Julie Tattershall, Frank Gallagher and Erin Scarberry operates and manages both Clark Theatre and Heller Theatre.
