Is Martin a great mentor or menace? Hannah is haunted by her teacher's ideals in a complicated world. Martin becomes part of the Nazi movement and Hannah is Jewish. They originally held each other in high esteem before the war. Can there be any kind of reconciliation?

The play "Hannah and Martin" by Kate Fodor, is based on the truestory of the relationship between the Jewish political theorist HannahArendt and the renowned philosopher Martin Heidegger. In Germany in the1920s, Heidegger and Arendt have a tumultuous love affair while he is aprofessor and she is his admiring student. But as the National Socialistcomes to power, Heidegger uses his fame and brilliance to help furtherthe goals of the Nazi party. After the devastation of World War II,Arendt, who has fled to America and has become a respected public figurein her own right, returns to Germany and visits Heidegger at the home heshares with his wife. There she struggles to come to terms with hisinvolvement with the Nazis and to understand what he still means toher.

Due to the nature of the play Heller has several guest speakers tofacilitate a talkback with the audience after the play. The followingspeakers will be hosting; April 1st will be Edward Main, April 7th will be Dr. DavisJoyce, and April 8th will be Janet Koven Levit.

Heller Theatre is part of the Park and Recreation Department of theCity of Tulsa, and has been producing contemporary plays since 1981. Heller Theatre is located at 5328 S. Wheeling, between Lewis and Peoriajust south of 51st Street.

This play is for mature audiences only. Tickets are $6 for seniors and $8 for adults.
