Stage Manager Sherry Zyskowski and
Director Julie Tattershall

The word eleemosynary refers to the compassionate gesture of giving alms. In this play, by Lee Blessing, eleemosynary, or charity, is the salve needed to heal a grandmother, mother and granddaughter who struggle to maintain independence while longing to connect.

Eleemosynary is a nonlinear story that uses flashbacks to explain the complex personalities of a trio of brilliant women: Dorothea is the quirky grandmother whose eccentricity is a means to following her own muse, Artie is the daughter who looks for rational explanations to all things, Echo is caught in the middle of Dorothea and Artie's emotion-laden differences, yet with her remarkable intelligence and free-spirited nature, she is an echo of them both.

The audience will laugh and cry at the antics of these women. They are all brilliant in their own right, yet they often make irrational decisions based on faulty logic. In other words, they can't see the forest through the trees.

Heller Theatre's production stars Rita Boyle as Dorothea, Karen Evans as Artie, and Anne Ellicott in the role of Echo. Technical Director is Frank Gallagher. Anthony Batchelder is Assitant Director, and Sherry Zyskowski is Stage Manager. Julie Tattershall directs the production.

The play is not suggested for young audiences and contains adult language and situations.
